Transportation & Recreation

Transportation is important for health because it provides access to goods, essential services, and opportunities like jobs, education, food, and healthcare.

Active transportation includes walking and biking. This makes it easier for people to fit physical activity into their daily routines. Communities can encourage active transportation by building safe walking and biking routes.

Communities are healthier when they have sidewalks, bike lanes, and bus stops close to homes and businesses.

Community Partnerships

History of River Riders Bike Share:

River Riders Bike Share started in 2015 as a grassroots program offering community-donated bicycles for rent.

After three years of success, in 2018, the program received grant funding for a more robust system that provides more bikes, better-quality bikes, a tracking and accountability database, and new types of bikes.

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Zagster, Inc. notified its partners that they had to discontinue their bike share programs. Over the next few months, new avenues were explored to bring back the successful rural program to offer innovative transportation and recreation options once again to the community.

In partnership with Koloni, Inc., River Riders Bike Share returned for the 2021 season!

River Riders reduced its fleet size due to grant funding cuts, allowing them to focus on popular locations. They hope to reopen more locations as new funding opportunities become available.

Bike-sharing services expanded to Marshfield with the opening of new locations.
